Marriage Application

You may apply for a Marriage License at any County Recorder Office in the state when the ceremony will be performed in Iowa. Marriage applications are accepted in Marshall County between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. The county where the application is made is where the marriage record will be recorded.

To apply for a Marriage License, the bride, groom and one witness (all must be 18 years or older and the witness knows both parties) must sign the application before a notary. This office can provide the notary service and we require all three individuals to have photo Ids. The $35.00 fee includes a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate. There is a 3-day waiting period between when the application is made and the marriage ceremony may be performed anywhere in Iowa. A 3-day waiver can be applied for that is an additional $5.00. If the bride and groom are not able to come in to apply, we can mail the application to be completed in front of a notary elsewhere.

Following the ceremony, once the Certificate of Marriage has been returned by the officiant to the Recorders Office and placed on record, a certified copy will be mailed to the bride and groom.
