Gander Lookout Shelter
This shelter is located at Green Castle Recreation Area (1 mile south of Ferguson). Gander Lookout is located on the west side of Green Castle Lake. Green Castle Recreation Area is located at 2891 Green Castle Rd, Gilman.
Nestled in the center of the park, Gander Lookout lies on a gently sloping hill covered with trees that leads to the lake shore. The facility has outside running water, electricity, nearby hiking trails, picnic tables, wrap around deck, and playground equipment. Native lumber such as oak, walnut, cherry and hickory, which was salvaged from wind fallen trees from other MCCB areas throughout the county, was used to make wainscoting which highlights the 35’ x 45’ interior of the building. Two stainless steel counter tops have been installed for uses such as serving food.
Gander Lookout Shelter may be reserved for $75 for a whole day. Times of reservation are 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. In addition to the rental fee a $100 deposit is required with each rental for clean up. The person reserving the shelter will be the one responsible for clean up of the shelter and the immediate area. This includes but is not limited to placing all trash generated as a result of the event in the provided trash cans or taking any such waste with them once they are done using the facility (carry in - carry out policy). The determination whether the deposit will be returned will be made by the park attendant immediately after the rental time has expired or if notified by the renter that they are leaving the park. If it is determined that any clean-up is necessary, with the exception of emptying the trash cans which is part of normal maintenance activities, none of the deposit will be returned.
To reserve the shelter please contact the Marshall County Conservation Board at (641)752-5490. When the building is not reserved the deck and 8’ x 35’overhang is available for public use on a first come first serve basis
