September - Fresh Water Mussels of Iowa

Check out this video with naturalist Emily Herring as we explore some of Marshall County’s waterways to find fresh water mussels.  Fresh water mussels are considered the most endangered group of organisms in North America and there is more to them than what meets the eye.  From cleaning our rivers to becoming our buttons, their presence on our rivers is more than most realize.  So sign up and learn about these complicated creatures that dwell in our waters.
