Iowa has been occupied by humans for at least 12,000 years.  Stone tools are the only record we have for the majority of this time.  Luckily, there is a significant amount of information that can be gained from interpretation of stone artifacts such as arrow points, knives, and axes.  Styles and manufacturing technology used to make stone tools in the Midwest give clues to the age of an artifact based on archaeological evidence and the materials used can lend insight into migration and trade networks in place when the item was made.  During the Road Show, we will attempt to answer, to the extent possible, the ages and cultural associations of artifacts that are brought in for examination.
