Klauenberg Prairie Reserve

by tkrough last modified 2016-01-15 11:23 AM

240 acre area south of Melbourne. Located at the intersection of 330th Street and Knapp Avenue.

240 acre area located at the corner of 330th St and Knapp Ave, that is being reconstructed to prairie.  The land was gift to the county from the late Bernard Klauenberg, whose foresight like many conservation minded individuals, will preserve a small portion of the natural resources in Marshall County.  Per Mr. Klauenberg's wishes, this area will be managed as a prairie preserve.

This area is home to several upland game bird species, as well as, rabbits and deer.  Wildlife foot plots have been established with six acres of sunflowers and two acres of corn.  Winter shelter belts will be planted to protect wildlife from harsh winter winds, as well as, provide nesting opportunities for non-game species like Brown Thrashers, Catbirds, and Cuckoos.
