What is empowerment?

Community Empowerment was established by Iowa state legislation during the 1998 session in an effort to create a partnership between communities and state government with an emphasis on improving the well-being of families with young children.  The Marshall County Empowerment Board was established in July of 2000 improve results for young children (0-5) and their families in the following areas:

·         Healthy Children

·         Children Ready to Succeed in School

·         Safe and Supportive Communities

·         Secure and Nurturing Families

Marshall County Empowerment’s Purpose is to improve results for families with young children by empowering local citizens to lead collaborative efforts involving education, health, and human service programs on behalf of the children, families, and other citizens residing in Marshall County.

The School Ready Funds are state funds used to support a comprehensive school ready children plan designed by the local empowerment board, which includes preschool and child care, parent support, family home visitations, parent education, professional development for early care, health and education practitioners, and support for low income families to access preschool.
